Joyce House

Designed as a true family bach, Joyce House is a simple, functional home created to comfortably bring more than one family together during holidays in Whangamatā.

The original dwelling was completely removed, giving us the opportunity to start from scratch and create a bach better suited to the way the owners and their guests spend their time at the beach. With two families and children often staying together, the focus was on practical, hard-working spaces, easy indoor-outdoor living and low-maintenance finishes that could handle a busy household.

While simple in its overall design, the home incorporates considered architectural features that give it a sense of space and character. High ceilings through the main lounge open towards the covered deck, creating a generous living area and strengthening the connection between the interior and outdoor entertaining spaces.

The result is an easy-care, welcoming bach designed for full houses, long summer days and years of family holidays to come.
